Tucked just west of UniversityVillage with Roosevelt Road on the south and Harrison Street to the north, the Tri-Taylor neighborhood grew as immigrants settled there in the early twentieth-century.In fact, the area has been influenced by the Irish, Italian, Mexican-American,and African American communities that have flourished around the neighborhood. Most recently, it has been anchored by the growing University of Illinois-Chicago and University Village communities and become a center fortechnological and medical research. Yet, as the area has continued to change throughout the years, it has managed to retain its historic and cultural flavor.
Awarded landmark status to preserve the old-European feel, much of the neighborhood is comprised of cozy, century-old row houses and two- and three-flats along tree-lined streets. Newer town homes, condominiums, and single family homes built to meet growing population demands can be found, as well.
Arguably, the city's best Italian restaurants and bakeries reside east on Taylor Street's "Little Italy,"offering appetizing delights any time of day. Classics such as Rosebud's, Pompeii, and Francesca's draw crowds from around the city, while delis and Italian grocers please local residents. Just a short bus ride away, the Greektown restaurants await, as do those found in University Village.
With its location west of the city, the Tri-Taylor District offers easy access to the Eisenhower Expressway and I-90/94. And, the Blue Linestops close by, as do CTA buses, providing a quick ride into the Loop.
